Edition: 2026Effective: UnknownLast verified: 2026-09-07
The court maintains an Individual Assignment System wherein the Judges are directly assigned full responsibility for management of designated cases from assignment to ultimate conclusion, including post-judgment matters. All issues relating to assigned cases, including scheduling and procedural questions, are to be directed to the assigned Judge. Per Presiding Judge Order 24-16, the court has adopted a one family, one judge model. ORS 3.414 provides, “the presiding judge of the judicial district shall insure, when reasonable and appropriate, that all cases that involve the same minor child be assigned to the same judge.” ORS 3.408(1) permits the presiding judge to assign the following matters to judges who preside over family law cases: (a) Proceedings under the provisions of ORS chapters 107, 108, 109, and 110; (b) Proceedings under the provisions of ORS chapter 25; (c) Guardianship proceedings for minors under the provisions of ORS chapter 125; (d) Juvenile court proceedings under ORS chapter 419A, 419B, and 419C; (e) Proceedings to commit a person with a mental illness under the provisions of ORS chapter 426; (f) Probate proceedings under ORS chapters 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116 and 117; and (g) Any other proceeding in which a family is involved. ORS 3.408(2) further permits the presiding judge to assign “any criminal proceeding that involves domestic violence or crimes between family members.” When any party in a case is made aware of a case that should be related per the Presiding Judge Order, they shall notify the court immediately.
